The 10th Belt and Road Forum opened in Hong Kong on September 10. With the theme of "Cooperation for Change, Building the Future Together", nearly 100 political and business guests gathered to discuss hot topics in various fields and seek new opportunities for cooperation.

The opening ceremony was attended by Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, Director of the Central Government Liaison Office in Hong Kong Zhou Ji, Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong, Vice Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) Li Zhen, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Development and Reform Commission Xiao Weiming, Commissioner of the Hong Kong Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Cui Jianchun, and Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Frederick Ma Si-hang, along with over 6,000 industry representatives.

Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee delivered the opening speech.

Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu delivered the opening speech, stating that over the past decade, more than 45,000 people from over 120 countries and regions have gathered here to jointly promote more than 2,800 Belt and Road cooperation projects. He emphasized that Hong Kong is an ideal hub for jointly building the Belt and Road, connecting Asia with the world, and serving as a "super connector" and "super value-added player" in promoting high-quality global cooperation.

Lee Ka-chiu pointed out that in 2023, Hong Kong's outward foreign direct investment in countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative reached $133 billion, 3.6 times that of 2013 and four times the growth rate of Hong Kong's overall outward foreign direct investment. This clearly indicates that global capital is converging here and being deployed worldwide. He said Hong Kong will continue to expand its global trade office network among partners.

Yan Dong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce of China, delivered a speech.

Yan Dong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, stated in his speech that the joint construction of the Belt and Road economic and trade cooperation has achieved fruitful results, making positive contributions to promoting the development of an open world economy and building a community with a shared future for mankind. In 2024, the trade volume between China and Belt and Road countries exceeded $3 trillion, with the construction of numerous landmark projects and "small but beautiful" livelihood projects, enhancing the infrastructure level of participating countries. Additionally, China signed investment cooperation memorandums with over 50 Belt and Road countries in the fields of green development, digital economy, and blue economy, contributing to global green and low-carbon development and sharing the achievements of digital economic development.

Yan Dong emphasized that the Ministry of Commerce will work with all parties to continuously deepen the economic and trade cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and continue to support Hong Kong in leveraging its own advantages in the high-quality co-construction of the Belt and Road to achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. Specifically, it will support Hong Kong in deepening internal and external connectivity, study and promote the joint construction of a single free trade zone by the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao; support Hong Kong in building functional platforms to advance international cooperation in industrial chains; and support Hong Kong in connecting project construction, continuously promoting joint "going global" initiatives, and creating pragmatic cooperation projects.

It is reported that the 10th Belt and Road Forum will last for two days, featuring multiple thematic panel discussions covering fields such as law, trade, insurance, construction, green finance, and logistics. The forum will analyze the latest policies and developments of Belt and Road, and explore cross-regional economic cooperation. A new segment titled "Belt and Road Key Projects" will be introduced to showcase major infrastructure projects, while a special session called "Focus on Middle East and ASEAN Markets" will be added to the investment project segment to explore potential opportunities in specific markets.
